πŸ”† No significant rain forecast for the next week or so for BC Peace region…

FORT ST. JOHN

UPDATE: A light rainshower is over the Fort St. John region this Sunday evening! That 30 percent chance turned into something good. There’s a few days this week with 30 percent chance once again! Any little bit helps.

The latest forecast for the BC Peace region is calling for more warm, dry conditions over the next several days with no precipitation for the foreseeable future…

The last time Fort St. John had any precipitation was on April 26, 2023. In fact, April was so dry the area only received approximately 14 mm of rain and 6 cm of snow over the 30 days. The forests and supposed greenery are bone dry that it does not take much at all to have fire go completely out of hand.

So why wasn’t a category 2 and 3 fire ban not issued sooner with how dry it is? That’s the question officials will need to answer as they have failed to realize the weather issues once again. All the forest and grassland fires started over the past week in the BC Peace region were human caused, and probably preventable if a ban was in place to begin with.

Smoke has now blanketed most of the BC Peace region due to several fires burning in the region, with the worst fire at Red Creek and the Boundary Lake fire near the BC/AB border. Windy conditions are going to persist over the next few days which will no doubt fan the flames.

Expect the fire ban to continue well into the future as temperatures could soar into the high 20’s by the end of this coming week. However, it is too early to say how hot it will get but at this point, today, Environment Canada is forecasting plus 30 by Friday for Fort St. John.
