As part of a multi-faceted approach to tackling these issues, the Detachment has once again played host to the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET). 

On Thursday November 12 and Saturday November 14, 2020, the UGET were in the City to support frontline officers and assist with intelligence gathering and enforcement. The main goal of the partnership was to enhance the safety of the public by aggressively disrupting the actions of individuals who choose to involve themselves in drug-related activity and the violence connected to it.

During these shifts, UGET officers conducted many checks of persons known to be involved in criminal activity and in doing so seized large amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl, along with thousands of dollars in cash, and numerous weapons including two firearms.

On Friday November 13, 2020, the UGET conducted operations in Quesnel, a community known to have a strong criminal nexus to Prince George. While there, UGET officers seized drugs, ammunition, cash and a multitude of weapons including a crossbow, during their investigations.

In addition to the seized drugs, the UGET had the following successes while in Prince George and Quesnel:

·         Checked 160 persons;

·         Stopped 130 vehicles;

·         Seized over two dozen weapons including two firearms, a crossbow, a machete, two conducted energy weapons, brass knuckles, three batons, bear spray, a hatchet, two replica pistols and at least a dozen knives;

·         Seized over $10,000 in cash.

Violence is fueled by the drug trade. Regardless of these positive results, the residents of Prince George and our neighbours in Quesnel need to stay vigilant and report incidents to the police as soon as possible. Violent offenders show no regard for public safety and the public plays a crucial role in making our communities safe.

The RCMP is committed to aggressively targeting those responsible for causing harm through drug trafficking and its associated violence in our communities.
