The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Quesnel where a person sustained life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at approximately 4:28 p.m., Quesnel RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence on the 500-block of Nason Street. A man was reportedly shooting multiple rounds from a firearm within the residence with some rounds striking a neighbouring residence. No one else was inside the home and police established containment of the residence. Shortly after police arrival, the shooter became dormant.

The North District Emergency Response Team attended the scene and attempted to establish contact with the suspect; however, they received no response from inside. Police made entry into the home and discovered the suspect suffering from a presumed self-inflicted gunshot wound. First responders provided immediate medical aid, and the suspect was transported to hospital with serious life-threatening inquiries. No one else was injured in the incident.

The IIO BC was notified and are investigating police actions in this incident. The area was cordoned off to support the investigation.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
