Ended…

The headline says it all folks, another round of heavy snow is coming to the Prince George region this weekend, particularly on Saturday…

The region has already had over 20 cm of snow since a warming trend began on Wednesday morning. An additional 25 to 30 cm is expected by Sunday, with majority of that falling on Saturday (20 cm) and it includes light snow for today (Nov 29).

With the latest round of snow, it is falling on a weekend where many people are going to be travelling on the highways to get to Prince George. It is advisable to check DriveBC.ca for the latest information on road conditions BEFORE you head out.

Another issue we could be facing come next week is rain. Another warm trend is moving into the region beginning on Monday and with it comes rain and warm temps, around plus 4 or 5 degrees. Overnight temps will not drop below 0 until at least mid-week. Be prepared for tricky road conditions.

Below are the details from Canada’s Weather agency…

Where: Prince George, Stuart – Nechako, Lakes District, Bulkley Valley, near the Cariboo Mountains, Yellowhead, McGregor, Williston, Pine Pass, and Yellowhead Highway – TΓͺte Jaune Cache to the Alberta Border. Snowfall accumulations for Saturday: 10 to 15 cm, except 15 to 25 cm for Burns Lake, Fort St. James, and near Highway 97 north of Prince George.

Remarks: Snow, at times heavy, is easing today as the weather system moves east. Another round of heavy snow is expected to start early Saturday morning.

For the next snow storm, accumulations will be 10 to 15 cm, except higher amounts are likely over Lakes District, Fort St. James, and near Highway 97 north of Prince George.

Snowfall intensity will ease Saturday night to Sunday. The next system on Sunday will push most of the snow northward, near Pine Pass. There is a risk of brief, localized freezing rain on Sunday and possibly Monday morning over the central interior regions. Roads may be slippery from a thin layer of ice. A warming trend is expected starting Monday. Freezing levels are rising to 2000 to 2500 metres. Melting snow can give messy outdoor conditions early next week after several days of heavy snow.
