The Prince George RCMP have one man in custody after an incident that occurred just before 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
The initial report from witnesses advised there was an unauthorized man in the railyard near Terminal Boulevard and Industrial Way, who appeared to have a firearm in his possession. It was reported that the man was acting suspiciously and attempting to make entry into buildings, vehicles, and trains.
Upon police arrival, the suspect attempted to flee and police officers made manoeuvres to stop the vehicle. Once stopped, a police officer discharged their service pistol at the suspect; the man was subsequently arrested after a brief struggle. A search of the suspect and his vehicle located a firearm and ammunition.
βThe rapid response by police officers was key to this event concluding as it did: with one person in custody and no injuries to the public,β states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for Prince George RCMP.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Daniel Patrick Finke, was remanded in custody until his next court appearance. The following charges have been approved in this investigation:
- Pointing a firearm
- Flight while pursued by a police officer
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
This matter is now before the courts.
