Police say early this morning officers responded to a report of a theft in the area of 15th Ave and Victoria Street.

Police located the suspect a short distance away and arrested the man, who was found to be in possession of a firearm and had an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported to Prince George Detachments cells.

While being booked in, a physical altercation occurred during which bear spray was used and a police officer discharged their service pistol.

The officer received minor injuries and the suspect was injured in the altercation and received medical attention for those injuries.

No word on whether the man was sent to hospital to treat those injuries.

The IIO has been notified of the event. As this is an active investigation, there will be no further updates.
