Two suspects arrested following a series of events in Prince George…

PRINCE GEORGE, BC: Two people have been arrested following a series of events involving a stolen pickup early this morning…

Police say on May 11, 2022, just after 4:00 AM, officers received a report of a break and enter to a business on the 700-block of 4th Avenue.

Officers attended the business and were met by a burgundy coloured Dodge pickup truck pulling a flat deck trailer, leaving the area. Efforts to stop the vehicle were attempted by attending officers but due to it driving erratically and at high rates of speed, it was not pursued.

A short time later, officers received a report of another break and enter, this time to a business on the 1700-block of Queensway. Police determined the vehicle that had recently fled from them had been stolen from this location earlier in the evening.

Police located the suspect truck, now without the trailer, shortly after 5:00 AM, heading southbound on Old Summit Lake Road. Officers successfully deployed a spike belt on Northwood Pulpmill Road briefly disabling the vehicle. During this encounter with the suspects, an officer discharged their firearm. The suspect vehicle fled and continued to drive dangerously, colliding with a police vehicle.

The truck continued at a high rate of speed north on Old Summit Lake Road, turning southbound on the Hart Highway, then colliding with a second police vehicle near Lehman Street. Police officers successfully deployed a second spike belt but the vehicle failed to stop.

Due to the reckless and dangerous manner the suspect vehicle was being driven, police discontinued their pursuit of the vehicle. Commuter traffic was increasing on the roads and police were concerned for the public’s safety as they observed the suspect vehicle driving into oncoming traffic.

Investigators continued patrols for the vehicle and it was located a short time later abandoned in an alleyway near 5th Avenue and Burden Street.

With the assistance of a Police Service Dog team, police located and arrested both suspects.

“The suspects are both well-known to police; both men were arrested and held in custody to attend court this afternoon. Thankfully, two of the involved officers only sustained minor injuries as a result of this dynamic situation. Investigators are working diligently on this investigation, which is still in its infancy. We are asking that anyone with dash cam footage or video surveillance capturing the suspect vehicle’s movements from the areas of the break-and-enters please call the non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 to speak with police,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

If you have any information about this or any other criminal offence, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477 or online at www.northernbccrimestoppers.ca
