The North District Major Crime Unit (ND MCU) has been called to investigate the death of a young woman in Esk’etemc, located in Alkali Lake region.
On Monday, December 20, 2021 officers of the Williams Lake RCMP Detachment received a call related to a possible suspicious death in the community of Esk’etemc near Williams Lake.
RCMP officers attended with the BC Ambulance Service and confirmed the death of a 19 year-old aboriginal woman. A 23 year-old aboriginal man was arrested inside the residence and the scene was secured. The woman and man are believed to have been known to one another.
Williams Lake RCMP units, including Indigenous Policing Services, RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the BC RCMP ND MCU continue to investigate the death at this time along with the BC Coroners Service.
In consultation with the BC Prosecution Services, one count of second degree murder has been approved against 23 year-old Waylon Darian HARRY and he is remanded in custody with a scheduled date to appear in court, via video conference, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
