PRINCE GEORGE, BC: Police are currently investigating an early morning report of a gunshot in the downtown area of the city…

Police say at 5:21 AM on May 11, 2021, officers received a report of a single gunshot heard near the 1000 block of 6th Avenue. The witness stated she also heard what sounded like a loud argument between and man and a women before the sound of the gunfire.

Police immediately flooded the area and located a man and a woman near the corner of 7th Avenue and Dominion Street. Members witnessed the male drop a bag before running away from police. After a short foot pursuit, police arrested the male without further incident. Investigators spoke with the female and determined she had no injuries. She is cooperating with the investigation.

Examination of the bag discarded by the male revealed a firearm and a spent casing. Police arrested the male for the firearms offences and transported him to the Prince George RCMP Detachment where he will remain until he can attend a JJP Hearing later today.

“Investigators would like to speak with any witnesses who were in the area of 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue along Dominion Street between 5:00 a.m. and 5:20 a.m. and have information on what occurred this morning. Additionally, if anyone was driving past the area and has dash cam footage we would like to speak with them, as well,” states Cst. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.

The investigation is ongoing.
