Suspect rams police, ends in arrest…

DAWSON CREEK, BC: A man on outstanding warrants has been arrested following a traffic stop last week in Dawson Creek…

Police say on April 7, 2021, at approximately 8 PM, officers were on patrol when they conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle associated to a person with possible outstanding warrants for his arrest. 

As officers approached the vehicle, the suspect was identified as a passenger and was confirmed to have outstanding arrest warrants.

Upon being informed that he was under arrest and several requests for him to exit the vehicle, the suspect put the vehicle into drive and directed the driver to flee.

The vehicle accelerated away quickly but crashed into a police vehicle which had just arrived on scene to assist and was parked at the time of the collision. The suspect and driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by the officers.

The damage to the police vehicle was extensive with the occupying officer being sent to the hospital with injuries.

In addition to his outstanding warrants; Tyrell GIROUX, is now charged with:

Failing to Stop for Police
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
Resisting Arrest
Driving while Prohibited x2

GIROUX was held and remanded into custody. The involved driver of the vehicle was released with no charges.

The involved officer was treated at the hospital and has since returned to operational duties.
