Council votes to reopen RMCA and CN Centre…
PRINCE GEORGE, BC: Prince George City Council has voted to reopen the ice at CN Centre and Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA) for user groups as well as to resume access to the CN Centre concourse for walking during the 2020/21 winter season. Ice use will be available at both facilities by late October.
Many civic facilities were closed this year in early spring due to Covid-19. During the July 27 meeting of Council, Council voted to re-open the Kin Arenas and the Prince George Aquatic Centre to provide modified service to residents.
Last night, Administration recommended that Council also consider reopening the CN Centre and RMCA ice surfaces due to sustained high levels of demand during summer camps at the Kin Arenas as well as a number of recent provincial COVID-related changes concerning recreation including a return to gameplay.
The Elksentre will remain closed in order to help the City address an on-going budgetary shortfall due to Covid-19.
CN Centre indoor walking program
Opening day for walking at the CN Centre is scheduled for Monday, October 19. Four time slots will be available throughout the day between 8:30AM – 4:00PM, Monday to Friday. Participants will be required to register online or by phone (by dialing 3-1-1) in order to comply with Provincial COVID restrictions that include facility owner/operators maintaining contact-tracing lists. Further registration details will be provided closer to the opening date.
