Alberta man faces charges following Flight from Police in PG last week…

PRINCE GEORGE, BC: An Alberta man has been charged following a series of incidents in Prince George late last week…

Just before noon on Friday August 14, 2020, members of the Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit attempted to execute a traffic stop with a vehicle near the corner of Victoria Street and 15th Avenue (Patricia Blvd). The vehicle was associated to a person with outstanding arrest warrants.

The driver of the vehicle immediately fled north down Victoria Street. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue. Moments later, RCMP began receiving reports of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Vancouver Street. Frontline officers attended and found the suspect vehicle had collided with another vehicle. The male driver fled on foot and then into another vehicle being driven by another male.

That vehicle was located near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Victoria Street minutes later. The vehicle was stopped and the two occupants, aged 42 and & 31, were taken into custody.

The lone occupant of the vehicle that was struck by the suspect vehicle, was transported to hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Christopher Frank Phillips, a 42 year-old man from Alberta, has been charged by the BC Prosecution Service with the following Criminal Code offences in relation to these incidents:

  • Flight from Police
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Fail to Comply with Probation

Phillips was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Red Deer, Alberta for a number of offences, mostly related to firearms, drugs, and driving. These charges stem from an incident that is believed to have taken place in September 2019. Further, Phillips has another arrest warrant for drug related charges out of Ontario from August 2018.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 16th, 2020. Investigators are working with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service to have Phillips returned to answer to charges in that province, once the court process is concluded in BC.

The 31 year-old man arrested with Phillips has been released without charge at this time. The investigation is continuing.
