QUESNEL, BC: Police in Quesnel are investigating a hit and run incident that caused damage to the Quesnel River Bridge on Monday, July 13…
Police say at approximately 11:40 AM, a northbound transport truck struck the bridge guard rails and failed to remain at the scene. The damage to the bridge was extensive with an estimate at $120,000.
Witnesses provided a license plate of a blue transport truck which was later confirmed not to be the suspect vehicle.
With the extent of the damage to the bridge, and the vehicle debris left at the scene, the police believe the driver of the vehicle was well aware of the collision.
The collision caused lengthy delays for motorists in Quesnel on Monday with many taking their frustrations out on social media towards the driver who hit the rails. DriveBC.ca reported the bridge was single lane alternating traffic for several hours. The bridge is a main route along Highway 97.
Investigators are asking anyone who can identify the transport truck, or has dash cam video of the incident, to call the Quesnel RCMP at (250)992-9211, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
