Two people from the Northwest Territories are in custody following a series of overnight events along the Mason Road…
The events began in the Dawson Creek area during the overnight hours at around 2:30 AM, when officers observed a Dodge pickup travelling along Highway 97 that had been reported stolen. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled from officers and turned onto the Mason Road.
Dawson Creek officers contacted the Fort St. John RCMP for assistance in locating the vehicle.
Not long after, officers located the suspect vehicle stopped on the Mason road. The suspect driver had then accelerated the truck in reverse, striking a marked police vehicle.. rendering it useless. The suspect fled the scene once more.
A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle on the Mason Road in a patch of trees, covered with vegetation. Two suspects, a man and woman, were located inside the vehicle and were arrested. Both remain in police custody.
Police also confirm that there were gunshots fired by the suspect(s) at the officers who were inside the wrecked police vehicle. They were not injured.
The investigation continues.
