Avalanche east of Williams Lake claims one life…

WILLIAMS LAKE, BC: A 37-year-old man has died following an avalanche east of Williams Lake on Monday…

Police were notified just before 7 PM that an avalanche had occurred at Eureka Peak and that one man was buried in snow.

SAR was notified of the avalanche at around 4 pm and attended in a helicopter, finding the site completely buried and were unable to set down. SAR did detect a transponder and spoke with witnesses.

Currently, SAR and the RCMP are hampered by adverse weather conditions in the region and cannot access the site.

South Cariboo Search and Rescue have responded to the snowmobile area near Eureka Peak and respectfully ask that the public stay clear of the area as there is the possibility that Avalanche Control measures will take place.

Once more information is available we’ll update.
