KAMLOOPS, BC: On September 14, 2018, at approximately 4:30 PM, Kamloops RCMP received a report of a suspicious and possibly impaired man last seen near a camper trailer approximately 3 km past the Rose Hill Subdivision. Police attended the location and there was a reported exchange of gun fire.

The area was immediately cordoned off and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was requested to attend along with other support units.

Police can confirm that a man has since been located deceased at the scene.

No officers, nor any other members of the public were injured.

The scene and any evidence have been secured while the Independent Investigation Office of BC have been notified and are deploying to the scene. IIO BC will assume conduct of the investigation into the police involved shooting to see if there is any link between police actions and the man’s death.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police. Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the IIO BC at 1-855-446-8477.

Please note that all aspects and circumstances of this incident will be the subject of independent investigation and verification by the IIO BC.
