HUDSON’S HOPE, BC: On Wednesday August 9th 2017 at 2:54 PM, the Hudson’s Hope RCMP was called to the scene of a house fire on Lahagarte Road…

When police arrived on scene, officers witnessed the home collapse and flames could be seen coming from the structure. People on scene were attempting to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the grass and nearby forest.

Police were told that everyone was out of the home and were at a neighbouring residence. There, officers learned that a 2 1/2 month-old baby girl, who had been removed from the home had died. An adult male, father of the deceased child, had sustained severe burns to his upper body and face in his attempt to save his child. He was later flown by STARS to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police and Fire Officials are actively working on this investigation to determine the cause of this tragic fire. Although the investigation is still in the early stages, police and fire officials do not suspect the fire to be suspicious. The names of those involved are not being released at this time.
