Thieves have already taken advantage of a brand new grocery store in downtown Prince George…

On June 14, 2024, Buy-Low Foods in the Parkwood Mall opened its doors to Prince George residents for the first time but within 40 minutes of opening up, thieves entered the que to take advantage of just how busy the new store would be on its few days.

Police say over first three days of opening, officers responded to 12 reports of shoplifting. Most of the thefts were for low cost items while several other thefts were for larger amounts of product. In total, $450 in product was taken.

Buy-Low Foods opened up on June 14, 2024, in the Parkwood Mall on 15th Ave.

Two people were arrested and released on conditions not to return to the store and one person was held in custody until a court date was set. Charges of Possession of a Weapon, Theft Under $5000 and Fail to Comply with a Release Order have been approved in that particular case.

The Prince George RCMP will continue to support the efforts of the loss prevention officers as they work to curb incidents of theft at the new store.

Many of the suspects identified were previously known to police.
