The Prince George RCMP has evacuated several residences on the 1600-block of 8th Avenue after an explosive device was located by police during the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a house in that area.
The Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) from the Lower Mainland has been advised of the situation and is en route to assist local police officers in disposing of the device.
“Police officers have left the residence and are on sight keeping the area secure until EDU can attend. Out of an abundance of caution for residents in that neighbourhood, investigators have evacuated the nearby houses,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
Residents can expect police to remain on scene until the explosive device has been safely dealt with.
The substantive investigation remains ongoing and will resume when the residence is deemed safe for police to re-enter.
