A pilot of a small aircraft was injured after her plane crashed near Mackenzie last week….
Police say on May 21, 2025, Mackenzie RCMP was alerted by a SPOT SOS device from a remote area near Mackenzie. Officers say the activated device was associated with a single engine aircraft flying from Williams Lake to Fort St. John. Indications from the SPOT device suggested the likelihood of a plane crash.
Not long after, the Mackenzie RCMP, RCMP Air-3, and several other search crews including JRCC, ECC and Mackenzie SAR located the crash site. The crash site was in remote area and poor weather conditions had limited JRCCβs capability to approach the site with larger air resources. RCMP Air-3 from Prince George was able to locate a safe spot to land, deploying a Police Dog Service member who located and extracted the pilot.
RCMP Air-3 transported the pilot to JRCC resources outside the site who conducted a medical assessment and transported the pilot to hospital.
Transport Safety Board has conduct of the investigation to determine causal factors, however at this time there is no indication of any criminality.
