One person has died following a serious incident in Fort St. John on Friday…
The incident began just after 1 pm in the 9800 block of 103rd Ave, when a man in a silver two-door car fired shots at a black pickup truck with two occupants inside. The truck fled the scene. The man from the silver car had then set one unit of the Veronica Apartments on fire and drove his car into the unit.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the black truck had driven to the Fort St. John Hospital as both were injured from being shot. The hospital went into lockdown mode for a short period of time while officers attended. The two occupants of the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.
This appears to be an isolated incident and police believe there is no ongoing risk to the public,
said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. Police have identified several key witnesses and the Serious Crime Unit is actively investigating the incident.
Back at the fire scene, fire crews from Fort St. John, Taylor and Charlie Lake attended the fire. Due to how fast the fire spread through the structures roof, crew tactics changed to defensive mode to prevent spread to nearby structures. The 14 unit apartment building is a total loss, according to the City of Fort St. John.
Once the fire was extinguished, the male suspect was located deceased inside the car.
Anyone with any information who has yet to speak with police, or anyone in the area of 98th Street and 103rd Avenue who may have security or dash-camera video are urged to call Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-787-8140.
