Police arrested five people following a serious incident in the Fort St. John area Wednesday (Feb 19)…
The incident began just after 7:30 AM, when a pickup truck was stolen from a home on the 9800 block of 112th Ave, an area of the city plagued with criminal activity.
Approximately 12 hours later, two reports came in that Wednesday evening as the stolen vehicle was located by residents. The vehicle was reportedly stuck in the area of the 277 road near Montney, a community east of Fort St. John. Numerous suspects were reported to be with the stolen vehicle along with two other vehicles. According to the media release, suspects had pointed firearms at the residents who located them.
Officers immediately attended and set up containment of the area. The North District ERT from Prince George was called in to attend, along with a drone. Eventually, five suspects were arrested, including Gavin Davis, who was arrested on outstanding warrants. Three vehicles were also seized, including the stolen truck.
The Fort St. John RCMP did an outstanding job responding to this high-risk incident involving armed suspects. Their swift actions and containment of the area ensured the safety of civilians at the scene and led to the arrest of five individuals without incident,” said Acting Officer In Charge of the Fort St. John Detachment, Jaime Moffat. “Though this event was safely resolved, it is a reminder that if you witness suspicious activity please call the police rather than confront the suspects yourself, as public safety is paramount to the Fort St. John RCMP.
All five individuals remain in police custody waiting for a court date.
The Fort St. John RCMP continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information on this matter to contact the detachment at 250-787-8100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
