Welcome back to PJXM for another year of news from around the Central Interior and up to the BC Peace region. For new members to PJXM, each December the site closes for the holidays when school is done. PJXM reopens on the 2nd of January. Happy New Year, everyone!

Just two stories were major news over the past few weeks while two others are information on events…

Major Crime deployed to suspicious death in Anahim Lake

On the evening of Monday, December 30, 2024 Anahim Lake RCMP were called to a residence near Nimpo Lake for a report of a fight.

Upon police arrival, a 26 year-old local male resident was found in medical distress suffering from stab wounds.

EHS and police performed life saving measures, however the man succumbed to his injuries. A 22 year-old Nimpo Lake resident, known to the victim, was arrested without incident and is currently in custody. Police believe this to be targeted and there is no risk to the public.

The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit has conduct of the investigation and are asking anyone with information call the Anahim Lake RCMP Detachment at (250) 742-3211.

Woman faces drug and firearms charges after giving BC Highway Patrol the wrong name…

A little dishonesty during a traffic stop has led a 39-year-old Fort St.-John woman into an arrest and potential charges.

On December 13, 2024, just before 11:00 p.m., a BC Highway Patrol officer stopped a vehicle for an impaired driving check on 86 Street at 85 Avenue, Fort St.-John. The 39-year-old driver produced a driver’s licence, but when the officer asked the driver to tell him her name she could not remember. As a result, even though the driver was not impaired, she was arrested and the vehicle was searched.

During the search, police located a loaded, Privately Made Firearm (PMF) or ghost gun prohibited pistol, pepper spray, almost $2,000 cash, and suspected illicit drugs.

The suspect was held in custody to appear in court and was released that same day. Her name will not be released until a Report to Crown Counsel is forwarded and charges are approved.

Prince George RCMP’s Cram-A-Cruiser event another success

On December 14, 2024, Prince George RCMP held its annual Cram-A-Cruiser event, benefitting the Salvation Army.

Stationed outside two Save-On-Foods locations in Prince George, police officers and other volunteers greeted shoppers on their way into the grocery stores, asking for donations of food and toiletries for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

The residents of Prince George did not disappoint us this year: we received nearly 3000 pounds of food and over $1600 in cash and gift card donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank. We exceeded all expectations and we have the generosity of those who participated to thank for such an amazing result. The Salvation Army is a valuable partner, as they work closely with our RCMP Victim Services unit, helping families during times of crisis. This was an opportunity for us to give back to their organization, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

A big thank-you goes out to Save-On-Foods for hosting the event.

We look forward to the 2025 Cram-A-Cruiser!
