A well-known offender is spending some time in jail following a traffic stop during the overnight hours Friday (Dec 20)…
Police say at approximately 2:44 AM, an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot on Alaska Road North. Officers noted that the vehicle and driver in question were wanted following a previous incident when the driver fled from police.

Officers immediately arrested Kelly Shular, a prolific offender with a history of Driving while Prohibited and for Unlawfully Possessing Weapons. During the traffic stop, officers located a sawed-off shotgun inside the vehicle. Members seized the weapon and impounded the vehicle.
Shular remains in police custody until he can be brought before a judge.
New charges against Shular include:
- Careless storage of a Firearm
- Possessing a Prohibited Firearm without Registration Certificate
- Occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm in the vehicle
- Possessing a loaded Prohibited Firearm without Authorization
- Possessing a Prohibited Firearm Knowing that the Person was Not The Holder of a License
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- 3 counts of Possessing a Firearm while Prohibited
Warrant charges include:
- 2 counts of Driving while Prohibited
- Flight from Police
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Police continue to investigate.
