UPDATE – On October 4, 2024, the Mackenzie RCMP arrested Drake Kerr for Second-Degree Murder of man in Mackenzie earlier this week.

Brett Urano BC RCMP spokesperson. βKerr is in custody because of the hard work our officers and the publicβs assistance in locating this man wanted for violent offences.β

Police say during the early morning hours of September 29, 2024, Mackenzie RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence located on 100 block of Centennial Drive in the community. Officers attended the scene and located a male deceased inside of the residence.
North District RCMP MCU has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Mackenzie RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area for the next several days while the investigation continues.
The death appears to be an isolated incident and investigators do not believe there is any potential danger to the public.
On October 1, 2024, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of Second-Degree Murder against Drake Matthew Kerr of Mackenzie, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued as a result.

The North District Major Crime Unit is looking to speak with anyone who may have any information relating to the incident or CCTV in the area.
