From August 8 to 11, 2024, BC Highway Patrol officers were out in full force for the annual Fall Fair in Dawson Creek. Every year, over 30,000 guests attend the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede for relay racing, livestock shows, and tradeshow booths.

Highway patrol officers from Fort St. John and Dawson Creek conducted traffic enforcement throughout the weekend and accomplished the following:

  • Six drivers were charged with impaired driving;
  • Six drivers were charged for excessive speed; and
  • Over 75 violation tickets were served.

The driver of a red BMW SUV was charged with excessive speed after it was located by police travelling 117 km per hour in the downtown core where the speed limit is 50 km per hour. The driver was served a violation ticket for tinted windows and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Speed and impaired driving are two of the leading causes in fatal collisions, said Cst. James Burton, BC Highway Patrol – Dawson Creek. Please slow down and arrange for a safe ride if you consume liquor or drugs.
