Police say just after midnight on August 9, 2024, officers received a report of a home invasion with shots fire at a home on Lalonde Road. While responding to the scene, the suspects fled in two different vehicles.
Officers caught up with one of the vehicles on 15th Ave but the driver continued to flee with officers following behind. The fleeing vehicle then crashed near the intersection of Alward Street and 15th Ave. One of the suspects from the vehicle was arrested by officers while three others fled on foot. A second suspect was located hiding under a vehicle and a foot chased ensued. The other two suspects were caught by a Police Service Dog near UHNBC. The vehicle was seized. Officers located the firearm on 15th Ave near Foothills Blvd and was seized.
All four suspects remain in custody pending an extensive investigation with multiple scenes. All
suspects, aged 21, 22, 23 & 49, are from outside of our community and are involved with organized crime. This incident is believed to be targeted, although a clear motive has not yet been established. During this dynamic incident, officers did an exceptional job to locate and apprehend the suspects with minimal harm or damage to property.
The victim was not physically injured.
Investigators are requesting dash camera and surveillance camera images for Lalonde Road, 15th Avenue, Ospika Boulevard and University Way from midnight to 1:30 AM.
PJXM News is located near where the fleeing vehicle crashed and the sound of that crash was intense with screeching tires that echoed in the night, a whole lot of sirens and then a loud boom right afterwards. There were no other emergency vehicles at the scene of the crash, unless they came upon it quietly.
