There was a subsequent collision on the highway where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) attended the scene but despite life saving efforts the person did not survive.

Multiple air ambulances, BCEHS ground crews and several local fire departments responded to the scene. Numerous people who were on the bus have been transported to hospital with varying injuries.

Police are also working with the local school district in order to help re-connect parents with their children. There were over 30 people on the bus including students and adults who have all been accounted for.

BCHP is working closely with 100 Mile House RCMP and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS) has been called out to assist with determining the cause of the collisions. Based on the initial information the bus was travelling on Highway 97 just north of Lac La Hache when it went off the road and down an embankment.

The highway remains closed to all traffic while investigators work to process the scene.

Anyone who was travelling in the area and has dash camera footage or witnessed either collision is asked to contact BCHP- 100 Mile House at 250-395-2456.

UPDATE – In total, 11 ground ambulances and 7 helicopters were called to the scene.

Motorists be advised that Highway 97 in Lac La Hache is closed to all traffic in both directions due to a serious crash involving a school bus…

Emergency crews attended the scene on Highway 97 at Butler Road in Lac La Hache just after 1 pm this afternoon. A school bus went down an embankment but remained upright following the collision.

Police say the scene remains active and parents of the students on that bus, who attended a field trip earlier today, should attend the South Cariboo Rec Centre in 100 Mile House for pick up of students once transportation continues and students are cleared.

At this time there is no word on how many vehicles besides the school bus involved in this incident. There is also no information on how many people were injured in this incident. Police are asking the motoring public for patience as it could be quite some time before the highway is reopened.

Once more information becomes available, an update will be provided on this post.
