Three Prince George youths were arrested Monday afternoon following a report of shoplifting at a local grocery store…
Police say the incident began just after 5:30 pm at the Save-On-Foods location at Pine Centre Mall. Officers were called to the store to investigate a shoplifting incident that turned violent as Loss Prevention Officers (LPO) attempted to stop two youth who were attempting to steal items. When the LPO’s stopped the youth, the LPO’s were assaulted by two other youth not involved in the initial incident. One of those youth was throwing items from the store at the LPO’s.
An off-duty officer was in the store at the time of the incident and saw the LPO’s struggling to take the youth into custody. The off-duty officer arrested one youth and arriving officers arrested two more shortly thereafter.
In total, three youths were arrested, two of which were arrested for theft and one youth arrested for assault. The three youths were brought to the RCMP Detachment to be picked up by their parents/guardians. A fourth youth who assaulted the LPO’s remains outstanding.
The investigation continues.
