Rene was reported missing to the Dawson Creek RCMP on December 7, 2023. On Saturday, May 18, 2024, human remains were located along the Kiskatinaw River. The BC Coroners Service has positively identified the remains.

The North District Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and continue to ask the public for any information that may help further the investigation.
