UPDATE 5 – Highway 97. There is a wildfire between Stone Creek Subdiv and Kurjata Sub 325 for 9.5 km (14 to 4 km south of Chetwynd). Single lane alternating traffic. Pilot car escorted. Highway will open at 10pm till 5am. Single Lane Alternating starts again at 5am when fire crews are on site. Estimated time of re-opening Thu Apr 25 at 10:00 PM.
UPDATE 4 – Single lane alternating traffic is now in effect. As of 11:15 am. Next update is after 5 pm.

UPDATE 2 – Remains closed as of 6:30 am, April 25, 2024. Next update is after 9 am. If you need to get to the BC Peace Region or the Yukon, you can wait it out or take the longer route up using Highway 37 from Terrace or Highway 16 East to Edmonton and then up to the BC Peace region from there. Fire information can be found on Peace River Regional District’s website or on the BC Wildfire website.

Motorists be advised that Highway 97 is closed south of Chetwynd due to a wildfire between Stone Creek Subdivision and Kurjata Subdivision. No estimated time of reopening. Next update is after 8 pm.
