A driver of a commercial truck has died following a crash on Gibraltar Mines Road in the McLeese Lake area early Tuesday morning…

Police say on March 19, 2024 just after 4 AM, officers from Williams Lake responded to a report of a serious crash involving a truck that was hauling explosive materials.

It was determined that a tanker truck carrying high grade explosives had gone off the road and was engulfed in flames. RCMP along with Gibraltar Fire evacuated the area and set up a 1.6 km containment area until the explosive risk was mitigated.

Once the explosive risk was mitigated, which was hours later, police confirmed that an adult man had died as a result. The incident is being investigated by the RCMP and the Mines Investigation Unit.

No names will be released.
