PRINCE GEORGE
Wednesday, January 31, 2024

The City of Prince George has added two more pop-up events for the Official Community Plan (OCP) review in February following the success of the ones held this month.

The City is collaborating with the University of British Columbia (UNBC) School of Planning and Sustainability to host a pop-up on campus next week where they are inviting people to come and have their say on the OCP review.

Plus there will also be a pop-up at the Golden Age Social event in collaboration with the Prince George Council of Seniors.

The event details are:

  • February 5 – UNBC – Doug Little Lounge (9am – 4:30pm)
  • February 12 – Prince George Conference & Civic Centre (Golden Age Social from 1:30pm – 4pm)

These sessions allow residents to learn more about the review process, plus get involved by highlighting different areas of Prince George that are important to them for preservation or improvement, and what people’s ideal vision for the City looks like in the future.

An OCP communicates a community’s vision, goals and objectives and outlines long-term development plans. It also guides planning and land use management. The City’s existing OCP was adopted in 2011.

“This is an opportunity for all UNBC students to share their ideas about what makes Prince George special and to shape future priorities, especially for youth,” says UNBC School of Planning and Sustainability Chair Dr. Tara Clapp.

“It is also a chance for students in the School of Planning and Sustainability to gain insight into the consultation process for the OCP and apply their knowledge to help build a healthy, equitable and thriving community.”

The new OCP will guide growth and development through to 2050. The OCP review process started in September last year with community sessions and an online survey.

Following the months of visioning and engagement, drafting of the OCP begins now and continues through until August. Final OCP review and approval is expected by the end of the year.
