UPDATE – “Investigators with the Serious Crime Unit arrested the accused, 39-year-old Prince George resident Fabian James Charlie, shortly after arriving at the location. Police officers remained at the UNDU building for the bulk of that day as they gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved one count of attempted murder in relation to this incident. The male suspect will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The victim remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

A man was taken to hospital early Friday morning after being shot at the homeless encampment in Prince George, commonly known as “Moccasin Flats”…

Police say the incident began just after 8:30 AM, when officers received a report of a shooting in the 500 block of Ottawa Street in the Lower Patricia Blvd area.

“A man was located at that location suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Multiple police units, including Frontline police officers, Police Dog Services, and the Investigative Support Team, immediately responded to the area to search for possible suspects. Emergency Health Services transported the victim to the hospital for treatment of his injuries,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The Serious Crimes Unit has since taken conduct of this investigation and investigators, including the Forensic Identification Section, will be at the location for a large portion of the day. We are asking that the general public stay out of the area in order to give investigators space to complete their work.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who was in the area between 8:00 and 8:30 AM, who may have seen anything suspicious. Please call the Prince George RCMP non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 and quote file number 2024-445 if you have any information.
