A fire at the homeless encampment in Prince George has destroyed an outbuilding…

Prince George Fire Rescue was called to the “Moccasin Flats” encampment on Ottawa Street and Lower Patricia Blvd on Thursday afternoon at around 2:46 pm.

Upon arrival, crews found an outbuilding approximately four metres by 4 metres completely engulfed in flames.

Two fire halls were dispatched to this fire, which was mainly attacked from Upper Patricia Blvd due to ease of access to the location and to contain any further spread of the fire up on the hillside.

The fire was quickly contained and no surrounding structures were damaged.

The fire appeared to be started by unregulated heating appliance placed in the structure of origin.

The media release did not state if anyone was injured in the fire.
