A suspect had to be extracted from a crashed stolen vehicle in Fort St. John during the early morning hours on Tuesday (Nov 28)…
Police say the incident began at approximately 4:46 AM, when a report came in of a stolen vehicle from a local convenience store. The vehicle had been left running and unlocked when the vehicle’s owner went inside the store. The owner had a tracking device for the vehicle and was able to communicate to police where the vehicle was.
Just after 5 AM, police located the stolen truck after an apparent collision with another vehicle on the West Bypass Road near Solar Trail. The suspect driver however, fled the scene and moments later crashed the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Alaska Road North and the West Bypass. When officers arrived on scene, the vehicle was upside in the ditch.
The male suspect had to be extracted from the vehicle with help from the Fort St. John Fire Department. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing with possible charges pending.
RCMP is reminding drivers to not leave their vehicle running unlocked with the keys inside.
