Police say on November 24, 2023 at approximately 8 pm, a BC Highway Patrol officer clocked a driver in an older SUV travelling 138 km/h near the 226 Road in South Taylor. The posted speed limit on the Alaska Highway is 100 km/h. The officer pulled the vehicle over with the driver complying. During the traffic stop, the officer detected an odor of alcohol and began an impaired driving investigation.

Evidence collected on scene suggested the 19 year-old male driver was impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol. During the course of the investigation, police located over 60 grams of suspected cocaine and several hundred dollars in cash. The male driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

The driver was served with two driving prohibitions under the BC Motor Vehicle Act and issued numerous violation tickets. The driver is also listed as having a “N” license. He was later released with pending charges of Impaired Driving and Drug Trafficking.
