The latest dry spell is coming to an end!
WEATHER PRINCE GEORGE
Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Last updated on November 2, 2023 at 2:07 pm
UPDATE 3 – Radar from Environment Canada on WeatherStats.ca is suggesting the wet weather is dissipating south of Prince George and is not as large as it was when it was in the Quesnel region earlier this afternoon. Expect rain or wet snow later on for Prince George, including freezing rain at times. 5 cm.
UPDATE 2 – Freezing rain is possible in the early afternoon in the Prince George region. The weather system at this time (7:24 am) is in the Quesnel and Williams Lake region and it is bringing snow to the area. PJXM expects this system to be in the PG region later this afternoon, however, if you are planning to drive south of Prince George, please drive to the conditions and not the posted speed limit as this area will be hit with wet snow first and or freezing rain.

UPDATE – DriveBC is warning motorists that snow will accumulate along Highway 97 from Chetwynd to Prince George on Thursday afternoon. Environment Canada is calling this a significant amount of snow, however, approximately 5 to 10 cm is expected and it is only significant because it’s the first snowfall of the fall season for the region. Otherwise 5 to 10 cm is quite normal and does not typically have a Weather Statement to go with it. Until motorists are once again accustom to driving in winter conditions, further statements could be issued for local highways.
PJXM will update this information on Thursday morning.
The upcoming forecast for Thursday is calling for some much needed…Snow! Finally!! Probably shouldn’t be too excited for the forecast as it could change by the time Thursday comes around, but up to 5 cm of wet snow is quite possible for the Prince George region all day Thursday.
Many areas of the Central Interior continue to experience drought conditions despite the cool off we have had over the past few days. The Nechako and Fraser rivers remain low and the only way the water ways will fill back up is with snow, and a lot of snow at that.
The last time it rained in Prince George was back on October 16, 17, and 19, with close to 6 mm falling. However, October 2023, has had more precipitation compared to October 2022, with majority of the rain falling earlier this month. This October, the Prince George Airport received 19.4 mm of rain compared to 6.5 mm for October 2022. Last year, the region was not experiencing drought and the river levels were normal.
Just a friendly reminder to drive with caution during the first snowfall of the fall season in Prince George!!
