A Fort St. John man was arrested Thursday morning following a stolen vehicle incident that involved RCMP Air Services and a Police Service Dog…

Police say the incident began shortly after 8 am on August 3, when officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle that was in the Mackenzie and Pine Pass region.

Mackenzie officers located the stolen vehicle in the area of Azouzetta Lake, near the Pine Pass region, but the driver fled the area.

Officers from Mackenzie called in for support from RCMP Air Services in Prince George and Police Dog Services (PDS) to assist in locating the stolen vehicle and its driver.

RCMP Air Services spotted the vehicle in the Kennedy Siding, a protected area for caribou in the Mackenzie region, as it appeared attempts were made to hide the vehicle from sight. A suspect was seen fleeing from the vehicle location and Air Services was able to provide PDS with the location the suspect was seen fleeing. With the assistance of PDS, the suspect was arrested without further incident.

The suspect, an adult man from Fort St. John, remains in custody and could face charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000, possession of break and enter tools as well as numerous charges of breech of conditions.

The suspect is well known to RCMP for similar offences. At the time of the mans arrest, there was a warrant for his arrest out of Alberta.
