As the Province of BC has prohibited campfires in the Prince George Fire Centre due to increased fire risk, use of fireworks is also prohibited. This means the July 1 Canada Day in the Park fireworks are cancelled.

The City of Prince George Fire Protection and Emergency Response Bylaw gives the Fire Chief the authority to institute this ban in the interest of public safety.

Campfire bans around the Prince George region have been in place since May 19^th.

Fire Chief Cliff Warner said the decision was made to ban fireworks in the interest of safety following a tough start to summer with active wildfires burning nearby. 🆕 The ban also restricts residents from setting off fireworks on their property! Save the fireworks for a different occasion.

“We know people are keen for fireworks, particularly to celebrate Canada Day, but it simply is not worth the risk,” Chief Warner said. “We’ve already seen people in northeast BC evacuated earlier this month due to wildfires, so we need to make sure we’re playing our part and being sensible during the summer months.”

Despite the fireworks ban, the 50th anniversary of Canada Day festivities at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park will have all of the same events and attractions that community members have come to know and love over the years including multicultural food options, all-day entertainment, kids’ activities, and a marketplace.
