A suspect remains in police custody following a series of events that began in Fort St. John on June 4…

Police say on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 6:20 PM, officers in Fort St. John received a report of a theft of vehicle from a residence. The suspect, driving a Dodge pickup truck, was last seen southbound on the Alaska Highway.

On Monday, June 5, 2023, shortly before midnight, officers from Dawson Creek were called to the local Ford dealership for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When police arrived on scene, the suspect vehicle, a Dodge pickup, rammed multiple police vehicles in an attempt to escape.

The suspect vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed, exhibiting dangerous driving behavior, therefore officers from Dawson Creek immediately notified the Fort St. John RCMP of the suspect vehicle that was potentially headed in their direction.

The Fort St. John RCMP successfully deployed a tire deflation device which caused the vehicle to go off road into the ditch in the area of the Alaska Highway and 96A Street. The suspect fled on foot. Police Dog Services (PDS) was called and PDS Mako assisted in locating the suspect.

The suspect was arrested without further incident and is facing numerous charges including…

  • assault of a police officer
  • flight from police
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • possession of stolen property
  • obstruction

The suspect was also on court-imposed conditions from a previous matter with multiple outstanding warrants and was remanded in custody.

The Dawson Creek and Fort St. John RCMP continue to investigate.
