A motorist in the BC Peace had their vehicle impounded after they were caught with excessive speed on the Alaska Highway on Wednesday…

Police say on May 10, 2023, a member of the BC Highway Patrol in the BC Peace was conducting patrols on the Alaska Highway and spotted a vehicle headed southbound at a high rate of speed.

The officer activated a radar gun and the vehicle was clocked at 155 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Due to a nearby wildfire, the speed on the Alaska Highway has been reduced near the Red Creek fire to 50 km/h. Police say signs clearly state the speed limit has been reduced.

The patrolling officer initiated a traffic stop where the driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speed and their vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The Fort St. John RCMP wish to remind the public to be mindful on the roads and the safety of others, to obey traffic signs in the area and know that if they are speeding, violation tickets will be issued and potentially their vehicles will be impounded.
