The Dawson Creek RCMP is sending out another warning message to people who use the dating app “Grindr”…

Back in March 2023, RCMP say two robberies in the city had ties with the dating app. In both of the March cases, the victims met a person online, arranged to meet up only to be robbed by a suspect and an accomplice.

A third robbery, with the same fact pattern as the first two was reported to RCMP on April 13, 2023.

Police say it appears that people are specifically targeted through this particular dating app and investigators believe there may be more victims of similar robberies.Β This is a very target specific group and victims may be very reluctant to report.

If meeting after using a dating app or any other online sites, the Dawson Creek RCMP suggests meeting in a safe, neutral public space prior to meeting a stranger in a private location.

If you have been a victim or know someone who has been, you are asked to call the Dawson Creek RCMP at (250) 784-3700.
