FORT ST. JOHN, BC: Charges have been approved against a man following two vehicle fires in Fort St. John a month ago…

Police say on October 2, 2022, officers investigated two suspicious, but separate, vehicle fires that occurred within 1 hour of each other.

The first vehicle fire occurred at 8:10 PM, where a City of Fort St. John pickup truck had been deliberately lit on fire while it was parked at the Pomeroy Sports Centre located at 9708 93rd Ave.

The second vehicle fire occurred at 9:02 PM, where the Overdose Prevention Van belonging to Northern Health had been deliberately lit on fire while it was parked in Northern Health’s parking lot behind 9830 100th Ave. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. There were no immediate suspects for either arson.

After an exhaustive investigation, the Fort St. John RCMP Crime Reduction Unit was able to identify 27-year-old Dennis WYCZESANY, as the person responsible for the arsons.

Charges have been approved against Dennis WYCZESANY for two counts of Arson, Damage to Property, Contrary to Section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada and is being held in custody to appear before a Provincial Court Judge.

Several other fires that occurred within the Fort St John area around the same time are still under investigation by the Fort St John RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and are seeking the public’s assistance, asking anyone who may have witnessed the arsons or has any additional information about the fires to contact the Fort St John RCMP at 250-787-8100 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at http://www.northernbccrimestoppers.ca.
