CHETWYND, BC: The Hasler Flats wildfire which was sparked by lightning on Monday has now become a wildfire of note due to the interest of the public and because the fire is highly visible from Highway 97.

Currently, there are approximately 20 wildfire crews, 5 helicopters, and 7 heavy pieces of equipment working on the fire which has significant fuel, steep terrain and strong wind fanning the flames. The wildfire is not an interface fire but is visible from Chetwynd and Hasler Flats. Hasler Flats Rd remains closed from the 0-26 mile marker.

The latest update says the fire has consumed around 75 hectares and continues to grow.
