Aug 12 UPDATE: The fire is now an estimated 120 hectares. It is not a threat to any community. Hasler Flats Rd remains closed from km 9 to 26.
Fire Behaviour Update: Rank 1 surface fire observed around the majority of the fire perimeter today, August 12. The east flank remains active with atypically high fire behaviour in the early morning. Rank 2 with pockets of Rank 3 fire behaviour is occurring on the east flank this morning.
CHETWYND, BC: The Hasler Flats wildfire which was sparked by lightning on Monday has now become a wildfire of note due to the interest of the public and because the fire is highly visible from Highway 97.
Currently, there are approximately 20 wildfire crews, 5 helicopters, and 7 heavy pieces of equipment working on the fire which has significant fuel, steep terrain and strong wind fanning the flames. The wildfire is not an interface fire but is visible from Chetwynd and Hasler Flats. Hasler Flats Rd remains closed from the 0-26 mile marker.
The latest update says the fire has consumed around 75 hectares and continues to grow.
