UPDATE 4: Wildfire G80997 continues to grow in size, resulting in the total road closure of Highway 97N in both directions between Suicide Hill Pullout and Prophet River Sub Road (87 km north of Wonowon to 102 km south of Fort Nelson). Travellers can expect to be turned around at Wonowon and the Prophet River Bridge.

In response to the continued fire activity of G80997, the Peace River Regional District has issued an evacuation order extending from Mile 202 (Trutch) in the north to Buckinghorse River in the south and encompasses a 5-mile corridor on either side of Highway 97N. The Peace River Regional District has also amended the evacuation alert to extend from Mile 202 (Trutch) to the Sikanni Chief River.

The BC Wildfire Service is working together with the Peace River Regional District, the RCMP, and highways crews to facilitate the evacuation.

UPDATE 3: The Alaska Highway is now CLOSED. As of 12 pm, June 30.
