Shortly before 7:00 AM, a frontline officer of the Prince George RCMP was conducting an investigation in the area of 15th Avenue and Victoria Street.
In the midst of the investigation, a physical altercation ensued between the officer and male suspect. During the altercation, the officer discharged his firearm and the male suspect was shot. He was transported to hospital via BC Ambulance with serious injuries.
Police are currently on scene investigating the offence of Assaulting a Police Officer with a Weapon.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has asserted jurisdiction and will be investigating police actions in this incident.
Traffic in the area is not affected.
