QUESNEL, BC: One person has died and another was taken to hospital in Quesnel following a two vehicle crash on Highway 97 south of Quesnel Wednesday morning…
Police say at approximately 9:10 AM, Quesnel RCMP responded to a head-on collision involving a SUV and a pickup. The investigation revealed the driver of the southbound SUV passed another southbound vehicle on icy roads. The SUV then lost control, crossed the centerline, and collided with a northbound pick up.
One passenger in the SUV died at the scene and one passenger was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The other two occupants of the SUV were not injured. Both occupants of the truck walked away from the collision without injuries.
“Two of the passengers in the SUV were extricated from the vehicle with the jaws of life. I commend the actions of Highway Rescue, Kersley Fire Department, and BC Ambulance Service for their valiant efforts during this rescue,” said Sgt. Richard Weseen of the Quesnel RCMP.
The Quesnel RCMP want to remind everyone to drive with caution and adjust your speed for the road conditions. With the heavy snowfall in the past 24 hours, the roads have icy sections and soft snow on the shoulders.
