PRINCE GEORGE, BC: Highway 97 in Prince George just south of the Hwy 16 Junction will remain closed for several hours following a serious crash involving three vehicles, one of which is a stolen vehicle.
Police say at approximately 11:15 AM, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a vehicle crash involving two pickup trucks and an ambulance near the Simon Fraser Bridge.
Three occupants of one of the vehicles fled on foot, but have been since arrested with the assistance of a Police Dog Service team.
Initial investigation has led officers to believe that a stolen pickup truck was driven through a ditch onto Highway 97 striking the median barricade and then colliding with a southbound ambulance, which then collided with another truck towing a trailer. The ambulance was transporting two patients at the time of the collision. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the investigation.
Several people were injured, however none are believed to be life threatening. The BC RCMP’s Impaired Driving Unit is assisting with the investigation. A portion of highway 97 is expected to be closed for hours while police gather evidence.
