Police say just after 5:30 PM on Wednesday April 29, 2020, RCMP received a report of an attempted Break and Enter to a residence on the 600 Ahbau Street in the city
Frontline officers attended the area. One officer was directed towards the suspect by a witness near the Spruceland Shopping Centre. The officer confronted the suspect and attempted to arrest him but was struck by a leg crutch. The suspect then fled across Highway 97 on foot.
Several minutes later, the suspect was located in the bathroom of a restaurant on Central Street near 5th Avenue. The same officer attempted to arrest the suspect, and was again assaulted. Other officers assisted and the suspect was taken into custody.
A 21 year-old Prince George man was held in custody overnight and will appear in court later today, pending charge approval.
The officer suffered a broken hand as a result of the interaction.
